Proper Care For Your Wool Rugs

Cleaning wool rugs takes a great caution since you should not clean your wool rugs the same way you clean installed carpet. Without proper procedure in cleaning your wool rugs it will leave your wool rugs to the ruin.

This article helps you how you properly clean you modern wool rugs. Foremost, you should remember to use neutral PH cleaning agent or any cleaning agent with low acid. Using high alkaline cleaning agents are very bad for wool. One fairly effective neutral ph cleaning agent is usually you can see to your kitchen sink. Mild type dishwashing liquid is great pick for cleaning your wool rugs.

The second most important thing to remember is to pre-test the rug for color fastness. Place a small amount of the cleaning agent you plan on using on the rug. Then put a white cloth over the area with the cleaning agent. Then place a weight on top of the white towel. Check the white towel 12 hours later to see if any color has transferred onto the cloth. If it has, you will only want to dry clean your rug.

Here’s how to do the actual cleaning. First, dry vacuum the rug like crazy before cleaning. In fact, it would be best to take your rug outside and place it over a fence. Then beat as much sand out of the rug as you can. Bring the rug in and vacuum it three times over very slowly.

After the area rug is vacuumed, take your rug outside. Brush some of the neutral ph spotter into the rug. Use a mild brush to do this. Then take your garden hose and flush the cleaning agent out of the rug. Do this repeatedly until the rug is clean.
Don’t worry, it’s safe to put this much water on your rug if you did a proper pre-test that determined your rug was color safe. This is why pre-testing is so very important. Rugs can be dry cleaned, but dry cleaning NEVER removes as much soil as a thorough flushing.

As you can easily see, it’s a lot of work to clean your own rugs. And there are many cautions to take. Follow these guidelines and you should be okay for most rugs. Now a day wool rugs comes with several shapes like square wool rugs, round wool rugs, and rectangular wool rugs. If you’re in doubt or don’t want to do the work yourself, I highly recommend calling a professional rug cleaning company with a rug plant to handle your fine rugs.
